Maidenhead is around twenty-five minutes from Ascot and one of the busier parts of our patch. The arrival of the Elizabeth line has driven a considerable amount of development and refurbishment, and that shows up in the work: extensions, loft conversions, kitchens, and houses being brought up to date before or after a sale.
The housing runs from Victorian and Edwardian property near the town centre, through substantial post-war and 1960s estates, to a lot of recent building. The riverside and Bray side has its own character again, with larger properties and more outbuildings.
What we see most is installations being asked to do more than they were designed for. A house wired for a family in 1975 now has an induction hob, a car on the driveway, a home office and a garden room. Frequently the wiring is sound enough — it is the board and the supply that need attention before anything is added.
What we're asked for most in Maidenhead
- Consumer unit replacement, usually before adding a heavy load
- EV charge points, with the incoming supply properly assessed first
- Electrical safety certificates for sales, purchases and rented property
- Kitchen and extension work, including circuits added during refurbishment
Properties near the river are worth a separate word. Where an installation has ever been affected by water, the damage is often invisible and shows up later as insulation resistance that has quietly collapsed. It is worth testing rather than assuming.
